It is almost time for Health Insurance Open Enrollment! Here’s what you need to know about this year’s upcoming Open Enrollment for both individuals looking for Marketplace Insurance as well as seniors on Medicare.
Medicare
Medicare Annual Open Enrollment begins October 15th, 2021, and will end on December 7th, 2021. During this enrollment, you can make a variety of changes, none of which involve medical underwriting: Switch from Medicare Advantage to Original Medicare or vice versa. You can also switch from one Medicare Advantage plan to another, or switch from one Part D prescription plan to another.
To clarify, during Open Enrollment for Medicare you can:
- Switch from Original Medicare to Medicare Advantage (as long as you’re enrolled in both Medicare Part A and Part B, and you live in the Medicare Advantage plan’s service area).
- Switch from Medicare Advantage to Original Medicare (plus a Medicare Part D plan, and possibly a Medigap plan).
- Switch from one Medicare Advantage plan to another.
- Switch from one Medicare Part D prescription drug plan to another.
- Enroll in a Medicare Part D plan if you didn’t enroll when you were first eligible for Medicare. If you haven’t maintained other creditable coverage, a late-enrollment penalty may apply.
Individual & Family
The dates for Individual and family Open Enrollment for Marketplace Insurance are set to begin on November 1st, 2021, and typically end December 15th, 2021. During this time you may sign up for a Marketplace insurance plan that will be effective for January 2022. The subsidy, or tax credit qualifications, have also changed, so you may find that plans are more affordable for you and your family.
Dental & Vision
Ask us about dental and vision plans offered! You do not need to wait for an enrollment period to sign up for a dental or vision plan, you can enroll in those at any time throughout the year. We have many options to choose from!
